On arrival the player appeared ok, but it had been very poorly
packed. The carton was damaged and the player was sitting hard against
the carton wall in one corner.
The player turned on ok but started to fail after about 15 minutes of
playing some DVD's. The first DVD would not play at all (a legitimate
region-4 copy of 'U-571'), but the second one (a legit copy of
'Austin Powers - Spy Who Shagged Me') loaded ok.
However the playback video stream steadily broke up after about 15
minutes and eventually the player's firmware seemed to freeze. Power-cycling
didnt solve the problem and unit now failed to power up at all. I checked
the main fuse but it was intact. All the cable connections internally were
also checked. Measuring power-supply voltages showed them to be all within
tolerance except for the +5 volt rail which was a little low (at 4.63
volts). I couldn't find any explanation for why the unit was now failing to
power up.
I tried to contact the seller but he would not return emails and his
mobile phone number (contained in his Ebay contact data) was continually
turned off.
After giving it a couple of weeks, I gave up on the player and write it off.
I'm $115 out of pocket with a DVD player which is physically in ok
condition but operationally is now a deal duck. I posted negative feedback for the seller which you can
read. You are also able to check his ID history.
I have tried a few times to contact the seller since posting negative
feedback and still there is no response to emails and the phone
at the given number is never turned on.
