Ebay Australia Thankyou for coming to visit my Ebay abuse page. This page is used to provide information about scams and other issues relating to Ebay which are not directly related to Ebay trading violations (since those issues are dealt with by Ebay's Trust and Safety team quite effectively).

There are scams, issues, etc. which transcend the bounds of Ebay itself, and it's those sorts of issues which I will report on here.

Use the index below and select a scam or issue to read about...

  • - April 2003 - a PayPal registration scam (designed to solicit money illegally),
  • - January 2004 - Ebay user 'stev105' (a dis-reputable seller from Western Australia),
  • - February 2004 - Ebay account login confirmation scam email (designed to steal your Ebay account login details),
  • - March 2004 - Ebay fraud prevention scam email (designed to steal your credit card details),
  • - March 2004 - Ebay ID Verify scam email (designed to upload a MS Windows virus file to your PC).
  • - April 2006 - Ebay user 'djfrayne' (a dis-reputable seller from Queensland),

  • Note: If you discover something which suggests that a registered member of Ebay, a staff member of Ebay, or someone else trying to pass themself off as a registered member or staff member of Ebay, might be involved in something which either violates Ebay's trading rules and/or could possibly be illegal, you should always report the discovery to the Ebay Trust and Safety Team responsible for your regional Ebay server.

On a seperate note, passing-off as a legitimate registered Ebay member, or especially as an Ebay staff member, is very probably a criminal offence in most countries, especially if the activities are harmful to other people. Irrespective of that, the actual act of impersonating a registered Ebay member of Ebay staff member is probably an illegal act in itself.

If you are interested in having something featured here at this site, I am more than willing to look at the information available, but I cannot actually take any action on Ebay's behalf since I'm just a normal registered member and have no authority to act in any official capacity. All I would be able to do is pass information on to Ebay staff to help in their investigations.

Ebay Australia recommends that if you come across any suspicious emails claiming to come from Ebay, you should forward them to:

    spoof@ebay.com.au

but there is no feedback provided either privately or publicly about scam emails... That's why any that I receive are placed in the public domain here.

Likewise, PayPal (which is, since early 2003, completely owned by Ebay), recommends that if you come across any suspicious emails claiming to come from PayPal, you should forward them to:

    spoof@paypal.com

The following links may be of interest:

    • - PayPal's Security Center (similar to Ebay's SafeHarbour - remember that Ebay owns PayPal).
